Different Types of Roofing Materials
- Asphalt Shingles- Most effective and m ost common. They are great for all tempratures and conditions. Very inexpensive $1.50-4.50 per Sq Ft
- Metal- Comes in vertical panels. Usually looks like tile or slate roof. Metal is great for keeping heavy snow and rain off. Resists wind and heat but can be loud in a hail or rain storm. Metal roofs are quite more expensive. At its lowest, its double the cost of shingles. Highest can be up to 40k.
- Stone Coated Steel- Looks like slate or shingles and will resist more wet climates. Also good for fire prone areas. Can take heavy heavy rains and winds over 100 mph. Cold or Hot, will resist all temperature changes. Considered middle of the pack. $5-10 Per Sqaure Foot.
- Slate- Slate is a great for lasting a very long time. up to and sometimes over 100 years. Slate is waterproof and will have no mold or fungus. Very good for wet climates. But is expensive. 6k-9k for full roof job.
- Rubber Slate- Very durable and cost effective option. You can choose from a wide range of colors and styles. Will last 15-30 years respectively. Repairs are cheaper as a well, if anything comes up before those years do. Rubber will insulate your home more and therefore lower you energy bill. $4-8 per sq ft.
- Concrete and Clay Tiles- They are what they seem. Concrete and Clay will withstand any wind speed from any storm or tornado. But, Very heavy and has been known to break if walked on. There durability comes with a cost. $10-20 Per Square Foot.
- Solar Tiles- Will fit most roofs. Can generate 12-70 watts of power per tile. Great for sunny roofs and sunny climates. Will help reduce your bill but are very exxpensive and most are leased while being used. Cost 60k-80k per roof.
- Eco-Friendly Living- This one is the most unique by far and sometimes more work then all the above roofs. Eco- Friendly roofs are made out of natural plants. Will reduce water run off from rains and helps insulate your home. But will need more support, drainage,soil,compost,plants...just a little more work. Cost $10-30 per sq ft. Not to mention more time involved.
